ADK Sled Chicks began in 2023 when I was faced with a divorce that left me feeling helpless when it came to participating in a sport I grew to love. I still had my sleds but I no longer had a truck or trailer to transport them with. I had to rely on others now and this was extremely outside my comfort zone. This is what made me want to learn how to be more independent so I could continue riding without having to ask for help or rely on others to move my sled for me. The more I began chatting about this with friends, it became quite clear that most women rely on their significant other for all aspects of snowmobiling. These same women also said they would like to learn more about what is involved with maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and trailering to be more independent and less reliant on their partner. This is what led to me to create a Women's Snowmobile Clinic designed in collaboration with a local powersports dealer. We wanted to provide a safe place for women to learn with others, share experiences, ask questions without feeling judged. The clinic was designed for all level riders and consisted of trailering basics, sled mechanics, necessary gear, safety tips, hands on troubleshooting, etc. The first year we had 50 women attend and most recently we had approximately 30 women attend. The feedback was astounding, and it was apparent that most wanted even more information or a way to stay connected. This is why ADK Sled Chicks was created to provide a way for women in the Adirondack area to stay connected and lean on each other to ask questions, learn from, or gain new friends to ride with.
